Lizz & Josh

Throwing this blog post back to 2020. Does anyone else feel as though it’s impossible that was already two years ago?

We can all agree that 2020 was a weird year that seemed to have more negatives than positives, but I’m a “look at the beauty in everything” kind of gal. I think you can find something meaningful and beautiful from any crazy circumstance. What beauty I noticed 2020 brought, was a collection of meaningful intimate moments shared with the ones who mean the most to you. 2020 boiled weddings down to what I believe it’s all about, the marriage and commitment. “Despite what’s going on in the world, I want to love you forever and start our forever now.” It stripped weddings down and made it full of intentionality and rawness, not that big weddings don’t have that too, but there was just so much more intimacy and beauty about it to me! To only have the most intentional friends and family witness your “I do” is something special.

Lizz and Josh’s fall wedding was filled with exactly every raw and perfect moment from the beauty I saw come from 2020. To start off their wedding day story through my eyes, I could see that from the very beginning they had friends and family who cared so much about them. One of Lizz’s friends reached out to me a week or so before the wedding and said that she and a couple other people wanted to surprise her and pay for me to photograph Josh and Lizz’s intimate wedding. I was blown away by the proposal from their friends and I was 100% excited to say yes, and even more excited that I was available that day.

They had some ceremony plans that involved hiking to a summit to say their vows, but things fell through and the weather wasn't looking too great. They decided on Thacher Park, which offered stunning fall views with a little less risk in the weather and no hiking. The wedding day came, but so do the rain! Josh and Lizz decided to still move forward and keep their ceremony outside, and I literally cannot express how AMAZING that decision was. Wedding ceremony outside in the rain? Hear me out, it’s freaking cozy and adventurous AND beautifully imperfect, which I believe was able to highlight the love they shared for each other even more. They embraced the rain and it added so much rawness and beauty to every photo, especially when the fog rolled in - I’m a sucker for a good fog. Plus the dark rainy clouds made the leaves pop that much more!

I love when couples don’t get caught up in the outward perfection of how their day will go, but instead are focused on the person at the other end of the “aisle” waiting to start forever with them. I cherish weddings and couples like this so much!

Last thing I HAVE to add, because how can I not, the bride literally texted me and asked if I could bring my dog to pose with them for photos. Bring my dog to work day? UMM YES PLEASE! Every photographer’s dream right?

Grateful to have been able to document such a special day for Josh & Lizz!
